I've not had much interest from house sitters. What should I do?

You are welcome to edit the details of your assignment and include more about the things the house sitters can do in your area. You are also welcome to upload photos of your home and pets. Simply click the link in the confirmation email we sent you to edit the details. Enter the extra details, check the box to have the assignment resent to your house sitters, then click save. We'll resend the details of the assignment to all the house sitters covering your area.

What will a house sitter do?

A house sitter will take care of all the usual everyday tasks involved with running and maintaining a home. These may include cleaning, gardening, lawn mowing, garbage disposal, pool maintenance, general security, and caring for your pets.

In addition, you may wish to have your house sitter pay regular bills, readdress mail, or other similar tasks.

Business persons who work from home often find that a house sitter with suitable aptitude can be invaluable in helping to keep things running efficiently while they are away.

Who pays the bills?

For house sits lasting more than a couple of weeks it is common for the house sitter to pay for what they use (electricity, telephone, gas). Fixed bills such as land rates, mortgage payments, and so on are not usually the house sitters responsibility.

Can I get a written contract? What about a bond?

If you would like your house sitter to sign an agreement with you, we are here to help. We have an appropriate House Sitting Agreement available, which is similar to a standard rental agreement and covers the terms and conditions under which a house sitter may occupy your home.

How do I write a reference for my house sitter

Once you have closed the assignment by telling us who you have chosen, you will see a link on your assignment management page to write their review.

How do I recover my password?

We don't actually use passwords for homeowners. When you created your assignment we sent you a special link to manage it. Just click this link to update your assignment.

If you have lost that link, please use the contact form to let us know and we'll resend it to you.

What do I do if your system does not identify my address?

We do not actually need the full address. You can try your town / suburb and postcode. If that does not work, try entering the address of the nearest post office.

I've just joined and paid by credit card. How long does it take to be activated.

It usually only takes a few minutes, but it can take up to 8 hours for a credit card payment to be processed. We will send you an email as soon as it is processed and you we be able to contact home owners.

I've sent a few messages to home owners and am still waiting for a reply. How long does it usually take to hear back?

We encourage home owners to reply to all messages. However, we do find that a number of home owners will just wait to see what options they receive before replying to anyone.

How will I know it is time to renew?

We will send you an email to let you know your membership is expiring. You will also see a message when viewing assignments.

You can also just click "Membership" in the "Your Membership Settings" menu, then scroll down and you'll see your membership expiry date and a link to renew.

Can you guarantee that I will get a house sit?

No, because we do not "place" you. It is up to the home owner to choose you from the potential house sitters we have sent them.

I'm just after one or two suburbs. Why are your areas so large?

Our systems let you choose which home owners you have your details forwarded to. We prefer to send you the details and you can just ignore any that do not suit you and wait until a position comes up in the suburb/s you want. You just need to be aware that this may take some time.

If require a particular suburb or specific dates, seeking a short term rental may be preferable.

How do I edit or delete my default wording?

You will need to log in, then click "Membership" in the "Your Membership Settings" menu. Scroll down and you will find your default message.

How can I view the assignments I've contacted?

When logged in, just click the "Mailbox" link in the top menu. The mailbox contains all the messages you've sent to home owners and their responses.

Do you automatically renew memberships?

No. Years ago we surveyed members and the vast majority did not want us to add automatic renewals.

Do I need a house sitting agreement?

If you would like to sign a house sitting agreement with the homeowner, we are here to help. We have House Sitting Agreements available, which are similar to a standard rental agreement and covers the terms and conditions under which you can stay in the home.

How do I add references?

Simply log in, and click "References" in the "Membership Settings" menu item. You will see buttons at add existing references or contact home owners to request a reference.

How do I contact home owners?

When you view an assignment, you should see a contact form to send them the home owner message. If you have just joined and can not see the form when viewing an open assignment, you may need to log out and back in again.
